POCHETTINO says there is only one way he can give his rival Pep
Guardiola a bloody nose in their heavyweight title bout.
The Tottenham boss has vowed to come out fighting at the Etihad tomorrow in a bid to KO the reigning champ with a devastating early blow.
With Manchester City chief Pep victorious in his previous FIFTEEN
contests — including last week’s 5-0 opening-day annihilation of West
Ham, Poch’s strategy seems either very brave or extremely foolish.
After all, Pep has shown he can land killer blows from a variety of positions.
But Pochettino is adamant his team will not change their style by keeping their guard up and going on the defensive.
And the attack-minded Argie feels his Spurs will have a better chance if they start on the front foot.
His team, of course, were the last to beat City when they won 1-0 at
home in their Champions League quarter-final first leg back in April —
as they shocked everyone with their dramatic run to reach the final.
Pals know Poch would love nothing more than a repeat victory over his
nemesis tomorrow evening — but he also joked he would like to tackle
Pep in the boxing ring.
He said: “This match is not about me and Pep.

“If we want to see who is best the best thing would be for us brave
managers to create a ring and fight in it like Anthony Joshua. Perhaps
we should do that with managers.
“I am so brave on the touchline because I know this is never going to happen, so I shout and everything.”
Asked who would win in a fight between the pair, former hardman
defender Poch said: “I don’t know. You could be surprised. People who
are always so relaxed are sometimes the most dangerous! He is strong you
know.”
The duo’s fierce rivalry dates back to their days in Barcelona where
Pep played and managed at the Nou Camp and Poch did likewise at their
Catalan neighbours Espanyol.
While Poch was thinking about pummeling Pep in the ring, the Spaniard was accusing the Spurs boss of not believing what he says.
Guardiola — in his pre-match press conference — lavished praise over his opposite number.

Mauricio Pochettino explains his idea of managers competing against other managers in the Premier League
If we want to see who is best the best thing would be for us brave managers to create a ring and fight in it like Anthony JoshuaMauricio Pochettino on his rivalry with Pep Guardiola
But the City chief added that the Spurs boss does not think he is being genuine.
Pep said: “Overwhelming, extraordinary, I said many times. I don’t
know if Pochettino receives as many compliments from other managers as
me, I don’t think so.
“My opinion about him is high standards, even if he doesn’t believe me, so he’s a top, top, top, top manager.”
The bitterness erupted two seasons ago in England when Guardiola
referred to Spurs as “the Harry Kane team” which Pochettino said was
disrespectful to the club.
He has also previously said that Guardiola “struggles to be a
gentleman” alluding to his exuberance on the touchline when City score.
Poch has a decent record against Pep and hopes to add to that this evening by playing in their usual attacking style.
TOP OF THE POCH
Poch said: “That is about our philosophy. I think if you play an
opponent you have to care about their skills and analyse their strengths
and weaknesses to find a way to beat them.
“We respect City and all the other 18 teams in the Premier League. But we have a way we love to play.
“Sometimes you can win and lose but we are always brave.
“We try to move forward and try think of us before the opponents. Maybe that is the key to beating Manchester City. We will see.
“From day one, five years ago, when we started we tried to develop
the game in the way that we wanted to play — be brave, pressing hard,
defensive line so high.
“We started to build our way to play, our philosophy, assuming that
maybe we didn’t have the players to try and play in that way.
“But we tried to help the players to become players who could fit into the way we wanted to play.
“And what is so interesting in Tottenham is that after five years we are doing the same. We are trying to improve the players.
“And those players who don’t have the characteristics or the profile
to play in that way, we are trying to push them because it’s the way we
believe in.
“That is the difference when you compare us with another team.
“And it is why in a long-term period you are going to win more games than you lose.

Juventus will make another Lukaku offer
Juventus
have not given up on their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku despite a swap deal
involving Paulo Dybala breaking down on Sunday night.
That is according to Corriere Torino journalist Massimiliano Nerozzi, who has been close to the transfer saga.
“#Juve and #United will make another attempt for #Dybala and #Lukaku but the deal remains complicated,” he broke on Twitter.
Inter
Milan are also expected to make a second bid for the striker after
their initial £54m offer was rejected earlier in the window.
Rojo transfer-listed
Manchester
United will try to sell Marcos Rojo before Thursday’s deadline
following the signing of Harry Maguire, according to The Mirror.
Maguire has brought Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s centre-back count to seven now and Rojo is at the bottom of the pecking order.
The Argentine played on the weekend against AC Milan but Victor Lindelof is expected to be Maguire’s partner.
Rojo signed a contract extension at Old Trafford last season, pinning him to the club until 2021.

What City offered Leicester for Maguire
It
took Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward to duration of the
summer to cave in to Leicester City’s £80million demand on Harry Maguire
– but it has now been revealed the offers which Manchester City made
for the Englishman.
According to The Athletic, Pep Guardiola wanted Maguire to replace Vincent Kompany in the heart of City’s defence.
Nicolas
Otamendi was offered to The Foxes as part of a deal but Leicester
turned it down due to the Argentine’s wage demands – as well as the fact
they preferred the full fee in cash.
Eliaquim Mangala was also
included in a bid but Leicester had no interest in the defender. City
eventually had a £70m bid rejected and withdrew from the race in July.

How Bale affects Pogba situation
Manchester
United officials are increasingly confident Paul Pogba will stay at Old
Trafford after Real Madrid’s offer for the central midfielder last
week.
The Times claim Los Blancos bid £27.4million plus James
Rodriguez for Pogba, which was rejected by United, who value the player
at around £150m.
There is a belief around Old Trafford that Real
cannot afford Pogba unless they raise substantial funds through player
sales – with Gareth Bale the biggest name on their transfer list.
The Welshman has three years left on his Bernabeu deal, though, and clubs are reluctant to match his £600,000-a-week contract.
Unless Real raise funds before the La Liga deadline on September 2, Pogba looks a United player for another season.

What Conte said on Lukaku
Inter
Milan boss Antonio Conte was asked about the club’s pursuit of Romelu
Lukaku after his side’s penalty shootout win over Tottenham on Sunday.
The
former Chelsea boss has previously expressed his desire to sign the
striker and said: “We continue to work on it in the best possible way.
“I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled, but at the moment I am very hopeful that this will happen…
“Everyone said it was done for Lukaku to Inter two weeks ago, now they say it’s done with Juventus.
“The fact is, if you don’t have the agreements between player and club, nothing will be done. So let’s see what happens.”

Lukaku trains abroad
Romelu Lukaku trained with Belgian club Anderlecht today, wearing their training kit, after being given permission by United.
He
has not played one game during pre-season and United officials want to
cash in on the striker, who they signed for £75m in 2017.
A
prospective swap deal with Juventus broken down on Sunday night after
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unconvinced Paulo Dybala wanted to join his
project in Manchester.
That, along with exorbitant wages and agent
fees ended United’s interest in the playmaker and Inter Milan are now
expected to make a second offer to lure Lukaku to Italy.
Solskjaer happy with Maguire
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also happy to see Harry Maguire become a Manchester United player.
“Harry is one of the best centre-backs in the game today and I am delighted we have secured his signature.
“He
is a great reader of the game and has a strong presence on the pitch,
with the ability to remain calm under pressure – coupled with his
composure on the ball and a huge presence in both boxes – I can see he
will fit well into this group both on and off the pitch.
“He has a great personality and is a fantastic addition to the club.
“I
would like to welcome Harry to Manchester United and we are looking
forward to working with him as we prepare for the new season.”

It’s done.
Finally, Manchester United have signed Harry Maguire and he’s buzzing to start his Old Trafford adventure.
“I
am delighted to have signed for this great club. I have thoroughly
enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the
club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past two
seasons,” he said.
“However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity.
”From
my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and
plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole is building a team
to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates
and getting the season started.”

Man Utd have had no Sporting contact for Fernandes
Manchester United have had no contact with Sporting Lisbon for Bruno Fernandes, Duncan Castles has claimed.
“As
of recently, very recently, I think last weekend, Sporting, upon being
asked about Manchester United’s interest in Bruno Fernandes, told a
friend of mine ‘I don’t know why the press keep talking about Manchester
United. We haven’t had any contact at all with the club’.
“They
basically handed over the selling of Bruno to his brother-in-law, his
agent, and the brother-in-law has been telling Sporting ‘a bid is gonna
come, a bid is gonna come. Manchester United, Tottenham, other clubs are
interested in the player.
“‘They’ve told me they will make an offer and it will be an offer that will be acceptable to Sporting.’
“Sporting have been allowing the agent to carry on that route, that is the source of a lot of these stories.
“I
think if you want to go and dig a bit about what’s emerged on Bruno
Fernandes, I think there was a fairly substantial report that he was a
step away from signing for Manchester United, you will dig back and as
far as I can see it’s sourced to ANSA, which is an Italian newspaper
report, which is run by one of the prominent Italian newspapers.
“It
was basically talking about Sampdoria being due a percentage of the
transfer fee were Bruno Fernandes to move for the kind of money that
Sporting are asking, which varies between €55m and €65m.
“They’ve made various public statements on this, how much Sampdoria would get.
“And
that appears to have been blown into people reporting and doing a kind
of Chinese whispers to the effect that Manchester United were just out
to pull the trigger on the deal.”
Romelu Lukaku has been tipped to shine alongside Cristiano Ronaldo should he swap Manchester United for Juventus.
Belgium
legend Enzo Scifo said: “One does not exclude the other. Real Madrid
had Karim Benzema alongside him and he scored a lot thanks to Ronaldo.
“I
see a similar situation: Cristiano would play ‘for’ Romelu, take the
pressure off him, and then in the area Lukaku would engage the
defenders. They would do each other good.
“Lukaku has the quality
to be a super striker, but on one condition: the team has to play for
him. Make the most of his features: I think Juve would do it.”
Arsenal
chiefs told Manchester United that Alexis Sanchez was a ‘loner’ – but
the Red Devils only found that out AFTER a transfer had been sealed.
The Athletic have revealed what happened in the immediate aftermath of the player moving to Old Trafford in January 2018.
It is said that United found out from Arsenal that Sanchez was characterised as a loner during his time in north London.
He was even described as ‘downright sullen at times’.
But, by the time United found out the information, it was too late with Sanchez already signing on the dotted line.
On top of that, Arsenal chiefs were not surprised to hear similar reports on Sanchez being isolated at Old Trafford.

Agent Carrick
Manchester
United coach Michael Carrick has been secretly working on Sean
Longstaff, who is wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford this
summer.
The Athletic claim that Carrick has been using contacts at Newcastle to try and build a picture of Longstaff.
He has then been passing that intel onto Solskjaer, who is still keen to complete his signing.
Carrick isn’t the only ex-United star helping the club in the transfer market this summer.
It
is claimed that both Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs passed on intel from
Crystal Palace figures when it came to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Giggs
also recommended that Solskjaer sign Daniel James having been left by
his maturity since a move to Leeds United broke down in January.

Signing to be done today
Manchester United are expected to confirm the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester today.
Express
Sport understands the England international underwent a medical at the
club’s Carrington training complex over the weekend.
Maguire was snapped in his car driving away with some United merchandise in the back seat of his vehicle.
And
an announcement should be done today over the £80million transfer, one
that will make him the most-expensive defender in world football.

Mandzukic close
Manchester United are close to signing Mario Mandzukic from Juventus.
That’s according to the Daily Mail,
The
Croatia international has been linked with a move to United in recent
weeks and, now, he will reportedly sign a three-year contract with the
club.
United are said to be paying him an annual salary of £6million a year.
And that’s a huge 30 per cent increase on what he has received during his time in Turin.

Man Utd aren’t in for Bruno Fernandes
Manchester
United fans have been begging the club to sign Bruno Fernandes all
summer long. But BBC Sport’s Simon Stone insists that will not be
happening this summer.
“Re Fernandes, in fairness I have not
been given any indication by anyone at Utd that he was a live candidate
this summer,” he tweeted.
“Other clubs also said no when they were linked.”
United deciding not to go for Fernandes could prompt Tottenham into signing the Sporting Lisbon star instead.

14 hours agoAugust 3, 2019MANCHESTER UNITED ‘disgusted’ at Paulo Dybala’s agent for demanding £13.7m for himself. The Argentine’s agent, Jorge Antun, has not only £350,000 per week for his player, but he has also requested £13.7m for himself. United are furious with the demands according to reports in Italy, and Gazzetta dello Sport are claiming the Red Devils are considering backing out of the transfer due to these financial reasons.
14 hours agoAugust 3, 2019ARSENAL flop Shkodran Mustafi boasts better stats than soon-to-be Manchester United new-boy Harry Maguire as the England man prepares for his £85million move. The under-fire German, 27, topped the Leicester star in almost every category last season – with a move to Monaco on the cards for the German. Man Utd are on the brink of finally landing No1 target Maguire, after months of chasing, as they were forced to stump up £85m – a figure dubbed an “incredible deal” by Brendan Rodgers. Maguire, 26, will now become the most expensive defender in history, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool spent on Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
14 hours agoAugust 3, 2019MANCHESTER UNITED are eyeing a swoop for Ajax sensation David Neres in a £46million deal, as their transfer spree continues. The Brazilian winger, 22, was one of a host of stars from the Dutch giants to light up the Champions League last term. Now, United are keen to add another out-and-out winger and are looking at Neres, as the mass Ajax exodus rages on – with Matthijs De Ligt just one 2018-19 hero to have left. However, Ajax are demanding around £70m to £80m, as they will owe Neres’ old club, Santos, 23 per cent of the deal, according to reports. And the Eredivisie champions are said to have offered Neres a one-year contract extension in order to tempt him into staying. With Man Utd splashing out £85m to bring in Harry Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely to have the budget to sign Neres for any more than around £50m.
